R91-200RESOLUTION NO. R91-~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, REGARDING A STATE GRANT TO PRESERVE THE THE OLD BOYNTON SCHOOLS, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Department of State, Division of Historical Resources has announced the availability of state grant funds for the fiscal year 1991-92; and WHEREAS, the grant funds are governments in the development of or rehabilitation of properties, available to assist plans for the particularly local restoration those which lwill be placed in public use; and WHEREAS, the Boynton Beach Historical Society has requested that the City Commission apply for these grant moneys for the Old Boynton Schools, which one day will be placed under City ownership; and I WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the proposed lproject and is desirous of obtaining State grant funding to assist in the planning for the Old Boynton Schools to preserve Boynton's historical resources. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission Boynton Beach, Florida, strongly supports grant assistance and the appropriate documentation. Section 2. PLANNING GRANT - MISTORIC SCHOOL PLANNING The City has recetved a request from our local Historical Society (see attached} to apply fO~ a planning grant for assistance in the development of plans for the restoration or rehabilitation of the old Boynton Elementary and High SChools located on Ocean Avenue. The Department of State provides these grants under the Bureau of Historic Preservation, w~th the funding source dedicateU through the licensing of Fictitious Names. This is a matching grant program, with the individual grant awards ge~erally in the ~ange of $15,000 - $20,000. The City is allowed to use in-kind services as our portion of the match. Our in-kind services would be the assistance of one of our senior planners, the graphics technician, secretarial assistance and project supervision by the City Manager's Office. The Resolution, should the City Commission decide to move forward on this project, expresses support and authorizes City staff to prepaKe and submit the gran~appl~Cation ~nd authorizes the City's matching in-kind contributions.
