R90-194 RESOLUTION NO.~90-/g~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, STATING ITS SUPPORT OF FULL PARTICIPATION OF AMERICAN INDUSTRY IN THE MANUFACTURING AND MARKETING OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT, AND SERVICES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, more competition in the telephone equipment marketplace will benefit the residents of the City, as well ~s the general public; and WHERES, allowing the Bell Operating Companies hereinafter "BOCs") to manufacture telephone equipment may increase domestic jobs; and WHEREAS, freeing the BOC's from the information ~ervices restrictions imposed by that certain modified Final Judgment (hereinafter "Judgement"), as entered in the following case, United States of America vs. Western Electric Company, Incorporated Teleqraph Company; will increase innovative services to serve the well as the general public; and and American Telephone and the availability of new and residents of the City, as WHEREAS, permitting the Bell Operating Companies to )rovide a full-range of information services will increase the availability of resources via communications for the residents of the City as well as the general public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, Section 1. The City Boynton Beach, Florida, representatives Resolution to expressing the FLORIDA, THAT: Commission of the City of hereby authorizes the of Bell Operating Companies to present this the Florida Congressional Delegation, position of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida which is as follows: A. The elected representatives of our citizens rather than the courts should determine the national telecommunications policy. Congress should consider passage of legislation that would lift the restrictions on the Bell Operating companies in manufacturing and information services, with proper safeguards to PASSED AND ADOPTED this ensure fair and open competition by all. This Resolution and the City's authorization of same shall in no way be deemed, construed or interpreted as the City's endorsement or support for the BOCs' not adhering to or complying with the above referenced judgment.
