90-MMMMMMRESOLUTION NO. 90-r~rmmCm~TX~/T1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, PROVIDING SUPPOR~ PALM BEACH COUNTY'S PROPOSED MANATEE PROTECTION PLAN. WHEREAS, the Manatee is quickly disappearing from Florida's waterways; and year; and WHEREAS, more Manatees are killed and maimed by boats each WHEREAS, several Manatees make the Intracoastal Waterway in Boynton Beach their home; and WHEREAS, Florida's Governor and Cabinet have mandated that Palm Beach County adopt and implement a Manatee Protection Plan; and WHEREAS, the proposed plan would create 50 foot buffer zones along the Intracoastat Waterway shorelines through Boynton Beach; and WHEREAS, said buffer zones would provide a degree of protec- tion to the Manatee that it does not now enjoy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach supports Palm Beach County's Manatee Protection Plan. Section 2. That the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach urges the Palm Beach County Commission to adopt said Plan. Section 3. That the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach urges the state Department of Natural Resources to approve the pro- posed plan. ZONE VII: Flagler Bridge Area A "SLOW DOWN, MINIMUM WAKE" zone including all waters ~in and adjacent to the Florida Intracoastal Waterway ~rom shoreline to shoreline, between ~ line drawn perpendicular to the center line of the Intracoastal Waterway 1200 feet north of the Flagler Memorial Bridge and a line drawn perpendicular to the centerline of the Intracoastal Waterway 1800 feet south of said bridge. ZONE VIII: Royal Park Bridge Area A "SLOW DOWN/MINIMUM WAKE" zone including all waters in and adjacent to ~he Intracoastal Waterway from shoreline to shoreline, between the Royal Park Bridge and a line drawn perpendicular to the center line of the Intracoastal Waterway 2,100 feet south of said bridge. See map. ~ONE IX: Lantana Bridge Area A "SLOW DOWN/MINIMUM WAKE" zone including all waters in and adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway from shoreline to shoreline, between the S.R. 812 (Lantana) bridge and a line draw~ perpendicular to the center line of the Intracoas~al Waterway 1,680 feet north of said bridge. ZONE X: Ocean Avenue Bridge Area An "IDLE SPEED/NO WAKE" zone including all waters in and adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway from shoreline to shoreline, between the Ocean Avenue bridge in Boynton Beach and a line drawn perpendicular to the center line of the Intracoastal Waterway 900 feet north of said bridge. ZONE XI: 8th Street Bridge Area An "IDLE SPEED/NO WAKE" zone including all waters in and adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway from shoreline to shoreline, between the NE 8th Street bridge in Delray Beach and a line drawn perpendicular to the center line of the Intracoastal Waterway 600 feet south of said bridge. ZONE XII: Atlantic Avenue to Linton Boulevard Area An "IDLE SPEED/NO WAKE" zone including all wateFs in and adjacent to the Intracoas~al Waterway from shoreline to shoreline, between the Atlantic Avenue bridge to the north and th~ Linton Boulevard bridge 1.5 miles to the south in Delray Beach.
