Ocean Avenue, Boynton Beach June 28, 2021, 6:30 p.m. PRESENT: STAFF: Julie Mondello, Chair Kacy Young, Recreation &Parks Director Betty Pierce-Roe, Vice Chair Eleanor Krusell, PR & Marketing Director Eugene Fagan Lisa Tayar, Prototype, Inc. Victor Gaud ABSENT: Joel Barsky Jacob Schwartz (alternate) Brian Bonnell (alternate) L Call to Order Chair Mondello called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. IL Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call Roll was called and a quorum was present. IV. Agenda Approval —June 28, 2021 Mr. Young added announcement of the 4th of July celebration to the agenda. Motion made by Vice Chair Pierce-Roe, seconded by Mr. Fagan, to approve the Agenda for June 28, 2021. In a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously (4-0). V. Approval of Minutes —May 24, 2021 Motion made by Mr. Gaud, seconded by Vice Chair Pierce-Roe, to approve the minutes of the May 24, 2021 meeting. In a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously (4-0). Ms. Krusell reported on the City's upcoming 4th of July celebration which will include vendors, main stage acts, a children's area with DJ, fireworks, kids' activities, contests, games, and veteran honoring. Parking and buses will be provided and a Covid-19 testing and vaccination tent will be set up. The boat ramp will be closed on July 4th. VI. Unfinished Business -None. Meeting Minutes - Recreation and Parks Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida June 28, 2021 VII. New Business a. Selection of Board Chair Nomination made by Vice Chair Pierce-Roe to reappoint Julie Mondello as Chair. With no other nominations, Ms. Mondello was reappointed as Board Chair. b. Selection of Board Vice-Chair Nomination made by Chair Mondello to reappoint Betty Pierce-Roe as Vice Chair. With no other nominations, Ms. Pierce-Roe was reappointed as Board Vice Chair. C. Camp Boynton Summer Camp Mr. Young stated that all Covid restrictions had been lifted as of June 21 st. Participant numbers have increased steadily for the summer. This is a 7-week camp which will include field trips, swim lessons, drowning prevention, and water safety. Chair Mondello suggested that swim lessons be scheduled right after camp instead of scheduling separately. d. Boynton Beach Senior Center Mr. Young advised the center is now fully open for all programs and activities. The senior lunch program has started up again. Registration is still required for membership, however, membership periods will be extended for this year. e. July is Parks and Recreation Month The City is proclaiming July"Parks and Recreation Month." As they are planned, a list of events to take place will be posted on the website. VIII. Public Audience -None IX. Items for the City Manager's Attention Mr. Gaud inquired regarding a tree planting program and was advised by Mr. Young that the Sustainability Department will be holding tree planting events to be scheduled at various parks and locations. Tree giveaways will include fruit trees. With regard to Mr. Fagan's previous request for a dog station at Dewy Park, Mr. Young reported that a station has been installed on the corner in the park. Chair Mondello asked about conducting neighborhood assessments to identify non-native trees. Mr. Young suggested this may be in the Comprehensive or Sustainability plan. Future Agenda Items • Needs Assessment Presentation - The consultant has been out of the country and is not yet available to make a presentation. • Community Greening Tree Planting Projects - A presentation will be given to discuss the program and upcoming locations. XI. Next Meeting - July 26, 2021. VII.
