Eugene Fagan James Jenkins Frando Patterson ABSENT: Julie Mondello, Chair Joel Barsky GUESTS: Diane Valentini, Manager, Arts & Cultural Center I. Call to Order Acting Chair Pierce-Roe called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call Roll was called and a quorum was present. IV. Agenda Approval – September 27, 2021 Motion duly made and seconded approving the September 27, 2021 agenda. In a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously (5-0). V. Approval of Minutes – August 23, 2021 Motion made by Mr. Fagan, seconded by Mr. Kanter, to approve the August 23, 2021 meeting minutes. In a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously (5-0). VI. Unfinished Business Mr. Fagan brought up the issue of the 1,200 trees which will be ordered in January, and their intended location. Mr. Kanter also asked regarding the plan for planting. Mr. Young responded he would bring the Parks Superintendent to the next meeting to provide a report to the Board. Mr. Fagan will also reach out further to obtain more information. Introduction of New Board Member Mr. Frando Patterson was introduced and welcomed as a new Board Member. b. Arts & Cultural Center Update Ms. Diane Valentini, Manager, Arts & Cultural Center, stated that the Center had been officially opened in October of 2020. She gave a power point presentation outlining their mission statement, types of classes being held as well as the number of participants and incoming revenue; participating independent contractors; rentals; special events; gallery exhibits; staffing; community inclusivity and accessibility; partnerships; special projects; and marketing outreach, including design and branding. c. Fall Festival - October 16, 2021 Mr. Young reported on the upcoming Fall Festival planned for October 16, 2021 to be held at Intercoastal Park. The festival will be free and will include a family friendly environment, food, music, bounce houses, and a pumpkin giveaway. The City’s Youth Board will be hosting a fundraising pumpkin carving contest. VIII. Public Audience – None. IX. Items for the City Manager’s Attention – None. Mr. Kanter discussed his concerns regarding the problem of local manatee starvation, noting there are parks in the City with lake vegetation and asking if manatees could benefit in any way. It was suggested he contact the manatee rescue organization in Riviera Beach or the local loggerhead turtle organization, and perhaps Orlando Sea World to see if there were any possibilities. Mr. Young also offered to check on some resources, including the Wildlife Association. X.
