90-GGG RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY ~OF BOYNTON
BEACH, FLORIDA, TO SUPPORT A NEW
INTRACOASTAL BRIDGE CROSSING BETWEEN THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH AND THE TOWN OF
OCEAN RIDGE AT AN ALIGNMENT WHICH IS AN
EXTENSION OF BOYNTON BEACH BOULEVARD;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND FOR
OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the current bridge across the Intracoastal at
~cean Avenue is over 50 years old and faces need for
~ontinuing extensive repairs; and
WHEREAS, it appears desirable to construct a
replacement bridge over the Intracoastal; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that the replacement bridge
nave a higher clearance over the Intracoastal for the
Oenefit of both water traffic and vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, a replacement bridge at the current Ocean
Avenue location with a greater clearance would have serious
negative impacts on residences and businesses on Ocean
Avenue, while a bridge at the alignment of Boynton Beach
Boulevard would have minimal impact on existing residences
and businesses; and
WHEREAS, it is felt that a new bridge at the Boynton
Beach Boulevard alignment would have a positive impact on
the redevelopment in the Central Business Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. That the City Commission finds that
Boynton Beach Boulevard alignment for the bridge is in the
best interest of the area and responds to both vehicular and
waterway traffic needs in the area.
Section 2. That the Boynton Beach Boulevard
alignment will minimize negative impacts on the area that
result from bridge construction while at the same time it
will be a positive improvement for the area.
Section 3. That the City Commission supports the
Boynton Beach Boulevard location.
Section 4. That the City Commission of the City of
Beach hereby, directs the City Clerk to send a
copy of this Resolution to the Florida Department
Transportation.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective
upon its passage.
