90-FFF RESOLUTION NO. 90-~-~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AND THE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY-COMMERCIAL BOARD SUPPORTING "PRESERVATION 2000", A BILL PROPOSED TO THE STATE LEGISLATURE BY GOVERNOR BOB MARTINEZ WHICH WILL PROVIDE FOR A $3.2 BILLION INCREASE IN FUNDING FOR THE CONSERVATION AND RECREATION LAND (CARL) PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, State Representative Frank Messersmith and the Nature Conservancy held a press conference at the Boynton Mangrove site on March 27, 1990 at 11:00 A.M. in support of Florida's Governor Bob Martinez' Bill to increase funding for the Conservation and Recreation Land (CARL) Program; and WHEREAS, the CARL Program involves state purchase of environmentally sensitive lands such as the Mangroves; and WttEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach desires to acquire the Mangroves situated within the City's Central Business District for educational and recreational purposes; and WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach has tried previously to obtain funding from the CARL Program for acquisition and preservation of the Boynton Mangroves for educational and recreational purposes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OFBOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City of Boynton Beach, Florida hereby supports the "Preservation 2000" Program, a Bill proposed by Governor Bob Martinez to the State Legislature which will provide for a $3.2 billion increase in funding for the Conservation and Recreational Land (CARL) Program. Section 2. The City Commission hereby directs the City Clerk to forward a Certified Copy of this Resolution to Governor Bob Martinez, The Nature Conservancy, State Representative Frank Messersmith and the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation.
