A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH
COUNTY TO EXTEND THE LOCAL OPTION TAX ON MOTOR
FUELS AND SPECIAL FUELS.
WHEREAS, the County of Palm Beach is empowered by Florida
Statutes, Chapter 336, to levy a local-option tax on motor fuels and
special fuels; and
WHEREAS, the County currently levies this tax and distributes the
revenue so generated; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach shares in the revenue from this
tax, and uses this revenue for transportation related needs; and
WHEREAS, this tax is to sunset in 1996, so that it cannot
currently be used as a pledge against new long-term bond issues.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The City of Boynton Beach strongly urges the Palm Beach
County Commission to exercise its option under Florida Statutes, Section
336.025, to vote to extend this tax at its current rate for the maximum
period permitted by law, and to distribute the revenue so generated
according to the provisions of Florida Statutes, Section 336.025.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to furnish a
copy of this resolution to each member of the Board of County Commissioners
and to the State of Florida, Department of Community Affairs.
