87-XRESOLUTION NO. 87-~, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE SOUTH LAKE WORTH INLET COMMISSION AND THE PALM BEACH COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUEST OF THE TOWN OF OCEAN RIDGE TO PROVIDE INCREASED SAND TRANSFER TO THE DOWNDRIFT SIDE OF THE SOUTH LAKE WORTH INLET AND TO RECONSIDER THE POSITION PREVIOUSLY TAKEN ON RESOLVING THESAND DEPRIVATION FOR OCEANFRONT MUNICIPALITIES SOUTH OF THE SOUTH LAKE WORTH INLET, FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, for many years beaches south of the South Lake Worth Inlet have been deprived of downdrift sand due to the blocking action of said inlet; and WHEREAS, the City of BoyntoD Beach has had to cope with the impact of the sand deprivation, and has therefore entered into costly programs to relocate, divert or move sand onto its beaches, or to retain sand thereon; and WHEREAS the Town of Ocean Ridge has made certain requests of the South Lake Worth Inlet Commission and the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, to increase the flow of sand across said inlet so as to more nearly approximate the natural littoral drift; and WHEREAS, the South Lake Worth Inlet Commission and the Board of County Commissioners have failed to act in accordance with the request of the Town of Ocean Ridge, have refused to resolve the downdrift sand deprivation in a substantial, effective and responsible manner. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The South Lake Worth Inlet Commission and the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners are urged to reconsider the intransigent position taken on resolving the sand deprivation for oceanfront municipalities south of the South Lake Worth Inlet. Section 2. The South Lake Worth Inlet Commission and the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners are further urged to comply with the request of the Town of Ocean Ridge and provide increased sand transfer to the downdrift side of the inlet which more nearly approximates the natural littoral drift. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to furnish copies of this resolution to the following: South Lake Worth Inlet Commission Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners Florida Departmentof Natural Resources Florida Department of Environmental Regulation Palm Beach County Beaches & Shores Council U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Town of Manalapan Town of Ocean Ridge Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediatly upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this , 1987.
