people were traveling in December, there was cold weather, and they were closed for

the holidays, as there were four holidays, which would result in a decrease in adult
visits, but that youth visits stayed consistent.
Chair Feldman asked about laptop usage.
Mr. Clark said that in December, adult laptop usage was 63 and teens was 144. He
advised that there are time limits and that they use laptops and desktops because the

two more students that are in the program. He opined that they likely heard about the

In both of our Hand-Crafted Greeting Card classes we had a few people show up from the waitlist. This
is the one class that we can be a little flexible with number of attendees, so we were able to let a few people
buddy up, allowing 11 attendees instead of the 10 we cap our programs at.
The Studio is continuously growing in popularity. Starting the third week of February I will be testing
my work load by adding 2 additional appointments per week. If I can handle this and maintain my other tasks,
then I will continue with the additional appointments.

Continued weekly help with a local author—helped her create a Goodreads.com account and profile.
Helped her create Press Release Templates on Word. Helped her learn basic Word skills.
Continued weekly help with a new US Citizen — I have been meeting with her on and off since I started this
position. We have moved on to typing practice.
Helped a local caregiver update her resume to help her pivot away from childcare and into hospitality
(which is what she has a college degree in).
Met with a young gentleman—a recent college graduate—who has zero work experience, but an
impressive CV. I helped him write a resume that highlights his experience from school. I also showed him
websites where he can search for a job. February is', he came to my office to tell me that he found a part-time
job in his field of choice. This now brings me 17/17 for resume help resulting in a job!
4-Week Computer Literacy Class was cancelled after the second class due to lack of attendance.
Outreach:
I was contacted by Susan Robbins on January 13th and invited to speak at the Deaf Seniors of America
17th Biennial Conference being held at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Hollywood, Florida from June 24th—
June 30th, 2023. They would like me to present my Protect Yourself from Scammers, Spammers and Hackers
lecture during their conference. I filled out the application they require for their presenters and I am waiting to
hear back from them.
Additional Notes:
Monday Night Classes are going very well, I have a steady group of regulars who come to the evening
classes after work. February 14th marks my 1-year anniversary of starting this job!

AmeriCorps Kids Homework Help Monthly Report
January was the month we got fully back in swing after the holidays! There were many children and
youth who came to the tutoring and homework help afternoons ready to take on the New Year. Many new
children and regular students made for a very busy'month. A new AmeriCorps member could come in the
morning and learn about what Bonni, the ESOL instructor, and I do here at the library. I showed her how I keep
track of the students and how I am starting on the new data AmeriCorps provided for me. She also learned a
lot from Bonni on how to get students active in class as her morning class is very close. Also, Sarah, another
AmeriCorps volunteer, coming in the afternoon and helping with tutoring has continued to be incredibly
helpful. The children love her and ask where she is if she is not here. She has made great one on one
connections with some kids, specifically younger ones who need help in reading, as that is what she specializes
in at her other site. She has been very helpful for me and the children. Another popular resource this month
has been the free books. Since I have made it clearer that the donated books in my section of the library are
free to the kids and they can take multiple home, they have been very popular. The children have loved
looking through them and finding new ones for them to read at home. I have also been looking to Bonni and
others for some advice as I am getting a couple kids who do not speak English well and therefore cannot read.
January 2023 Monthly Report I Page 7
That has been difficult to navigate, but I have found different online and worksheet resources for them to use
to practice reading and learning English. The sight words have been helpful, but I learned we have to start
more at the basics of the alphabet.
There were 57 children and youth who came to the library in January for tutoring and homework help,
most of them coming at least two to three times a week. Many new children have taken full advantage of the
program and continue to come every day for help on their homework. The majority of children who come are
still between 1st and 5th grade with most of them being in 31 grade. There was one High Schooler who came
in for help on math homework and an upcoming test and one Preschooler and seven Kindergarteners who
loved the help on letters, basic math, and sight words. We had 15 new children come into the program which
is the most we have had in a while and very exciting. The rest were "regulars" who continue to love the library
and homework help. Math has continued to be the most popular subject for help on, but reading has also
been popular this month with many students struggling with reading in general. For AmeriCorps, I am starting
to log growth in a different way and it clearly shows a great amount of growth for students who have come
back multiple times. I am looking forward to seeing where all of the students are by the end of the year.
Overall, this was a very busy month with many new students, but it made me even more excited to see
the growth over the rest of the year. The children are becoming more excited about learning and coming in
and I am just as excited to see them. I cannot wait for February!

Creative Edge Studio Usage Report - By Christina Graves
My part-time Studio assistant is starting to handle a lot more appointments. I have decided to start
separating those to show how much she handles as the Studio continues to grow and get busier.
In February we had a special program with a guest instructor. She volunteered her time to teach a class
on hand embroidery. The program was a wonderful success and we hope to bring that volunteer back for
another hand embroidery program.
In February a patron sent me an email thanking me for helping to build her confidence to start crafting.
She has a Glowforge laser cutter at her home, same brand machine we have in the Creative Edge Studio. She
had unboxed it and hit a problem during the set-up and never figured it out. She began working with me in the
Studio. We talked about troubleshooting, cleaning, and she started making so many of the projects she always
wanted to. February 6th, she emailed me that she got her home machine up and running.
We have another patron interested in volunteering with the library to start basic photography classes.
This would involve basic composition, rule of threes, basically how to compose the perfect picture. He is
working on filling out the volunteer application and putting together a lesson plan. We are all very excited for
this program. My hope is it will generate some interest in the Wide Format Printer, as everyone will want to
print their photos.

them learn how not to do it again. I have also been helping them digitize their photos and learn how to use
their iPads efficiently.
still have continued sessions with a local author—we spend one hour each week going over any and
all questions that she might have. For the month of February, we have been working on saving old documents
and the different features of MS Word.
I met with another local author a few times, she wanted help transferring her newest novel from
Windows Notepad into MS Word and how to set up the margins and spacing between the lines.
February 15th I received my acceptance letter for presenting at the 17th Biennial Deaf Seniors of
America 2023 conference being held at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. I will be

AmeriCorps Kids Homework Help Monthly Report
February is a short month, but the homework help and tutoring for the children and youth stayed
busy! Many kids continued coming in throughout the month becoming every day regulars and I also had many
new children. There were many busy days and I continue to be thankful for the AmeriCorps member, Sarah,
helping me after she is done at her school site. Many of the kids feel attached to her and love her. She excels
at helping the younger kids with reading as that is what he does at her site. We have had more younger kids
come in for reading help if they are behind in kindergarten or first grade. Many new families have been
coming in because they hear about it somewhere else, so word of mouth has provided to be a large factor for
new people. The free books continue to be popular. Many children read those books to Sarah and me for
practice and then they get very excited when we tell them they can take it home. They practice more at home
and have a book they can call their own. There are many different genres of books in the shelves as well, so
we have options for all kids, especially those who are uninterested in reading. There are many books for them
to look at and there are also many levels. If a child is struggling with reading, there are many different books at
a lower level that are just as interesting. Along with the books, they also continue to enjoy sight words as well
as me printing out extra worksheets for them. They have been loving to show us what they are learning in
school.
There were 59 children and youth who came in for homework help and tutoring in February, with
most of them coming two to three times a week and some coming every day. There were many regulars who
came in,46, and the 13 other children were new. Most of the new children and youth continued to come
back after their first appointment. Most of the children are between 1st through 5t"grade with the majority
still being children in 31 grade. There was one high schooler and two middle schoolers who came in for help
on their math homework. They are always very polite and thankful and often times they come back to tell me
how they did on their homework or test. There was one preschooler and eight kindergarteners who have
come in for help on their homework packets or help with starting to read and basic math. Math has been the
subject that is most popular for homework help, but reading has been popular for tutoring children who have
a hard time on it in school and need extra practice. I am continuing to log growth for the children and not only
can I see improvement in my data collection, but many students show me their new and improved test scores
as well as their confidence in the subject. There has been a lot of growth in math and reading here at the
tutoring and homework help room!
While February was a short month, there was nothing lacking about the homework help and tutoring
program here at the youth library. The children are continuing to get close to me and Sarah and trust us with
things they need help with. I have loved seeing them grow in confidence as well as seeing their own love for
learning flourish. I am hoping March brings just as much energy and love for learning!

The advanced beginner's class has completed the following topics as of the end of February.
1. The question word "why". (Ex. Why is she going to the doctor? She's going because she's sick. She always
goes when she's sick.)
2. Different ways of reacting to bad news. (I'm sorry to hear that. That's too bad. What a shame!)
3. Irregular spellings for different verbs when used in the present continuous tense (ex. Clean/cleaning, bite/
biting)
4. Reading longer and more difficult articles. Every student is given the chance to read aloud so that they can
practice speaking and proper pronunciation. They also do exercises which focus on reading comprehension.
5. Listening exercises where they must listen to the information given, comprehend it, and select the best answer
to the question.
6. Different modes of transportation(walking,driving,taking the bus,taking the train,taking the subway,taking a
taxi, riding a bicycle, riding a motor scooter, and riding a motorcycle. After reading articles like this, we discuss
different means of transportation and traffic issues in their countries.
7. New vocabulary expressing things people do when they are nervous, tired, cold, etc. (ex. I bite my nails, I
perspire, I walk back and forth, I yawn, I shiver, etc.)
8. Different types of sentences (ex.Statements and questions) and turning a statement into a question.
9. We have been spending a lot of time working on combining the simple present tense with the present
continuous tense. This is very challenging for the class. Switching tenses in conversation is extremely difficult
for all ESOL students. I want to be sure that they are comfortable with this before we move on to other tenses.
